This is a weird one and hopefully it will not be filled with inaccuracies. I am writing it a week in advance, due to the fact that when Wednesday rolls around I will be on vacation. My apologies if this is a little shorter than normal, but I am going to have to make some guesses as to what I will be doing.

Hopefully, by the time this is posted we will have arrived in New Orleans and are enjoying our stay. The Mrs has been to the Big Easy before during a nursing conference, but I have never been. (IKR?) I have wanted to visit NOLA ever since I first heard “Moon Over Bourbon Street”. That song introduced me to the world of Anne Rice’s vampires. I’ve visited Louisiana via her novels, the works of James Lee Burke, and many others. I love Zydeco music and a good gumbo. I’ve wanted to visit the cemeteries there forever.

Wish me luck!

Listening To: I assume some great street musicians and tour guides.

Currently Reading: I plan on taking Joe R Lansdale’s At The Mad Mountains to read on the plane, but we will have to see if I change my mind at the last second.

Current Obsession: Again, I assume the cool stuff that I am walking around and seeing!

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We should be winding up our BackerKit surveys soon. We really want to get our final counts together so we can start shipping out rewards as soon as possible.

Reminder: We will be at The Merry Crampus in Columbus, OH on the December 7th.

We will be running some pre-holiday sales this year on the website, so keep your eyes out for those announcements.

This Week’s Rambling: A Surprising Compromise

Numerous observational comedians, and the classic pairing of Paula Abdul and MC Skat Kat, have pointed out that opposites attract. This is also the case with The Mrs and I. One of us (the one who is NOT writing this) is spontaneous, enjoys flitting off without a plan, and loves surprises. The other (rational) one, feels much more comfortable when things are planned out (possibly to the point of obsession).

Fortunately, we have managed to strike an interesting compromise in terms of vacations. For quite a while now I have been in charge of planning the vacation and keeping it a mystery from The Mrs until we arrive (or until such time as keeping it a surprise is no longer feasible). This can be difficult as the only thing that she likes more than a surprise destination is trying to trick me into telling her where we are going.

It has been a long couple of weeks.

We have been on numerous trips in this fashion, including a stay in a converted lighthouse, a treetop resort in Costa Rica, and a trip to a Jack The Ripper convention in London. That was particularly amusing as The Mrs couldn’t figure out why we were flying to Ontario (the person at the luggage check in had just said that our destination was London). It wasn’t until we were on a really big plane that she realized that we were going over the pond.

With any luck, this will be another good surprise for her. I’m a little worried since it is somewhere that she has been before. Hopefully she will have an enjoyable trip and can find something that she didn’t do when she was there in the past.

I mean, it’s not as if I don’t have a two page list of potential places to visit.
