We made it to the second week of January, congratulations all!

I haven’t been doing much this week. I’ve been fighting off the flu or a cold or something. Scratchy throat, upset stomach, but nothing too bad. Basically I’ve just been wiped out. As of this writing, none of the decorations have been taken down. That is partially because the last Christmas was two days ago, but mostly because I’ve been enjoying the pretty lights.

Everything has been off to a relatively slow start, but I have been making a determined effort to get more writing done this year. I’ve even found a new tracking site that will allow me to keep a running count of the days and words. Hopefully this will light a fire under my butt.

I have received my tentative schedule for Confusion. Click here for the schedule, and here for more information about the convention. I will probably be around for most of the weekend, with the exception of Saturday evening/night as I have another engagement (which I can't discuss in case The Mrs decides to take a peek at the post).

Listening To: The peaceful sound of logs popping in the fireplace.

Currently Reading: Sadly, I’ve been too tired to keep my eyes open for more than a few minutes at a time.

Current Obsession: We binged both seasons of The Rig, watching most of it in one day. The show provides an interesting bit of ecological horror, but I wasn’t as jazzed about the last few episodes.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We finally received our copies of Arkham Institutions. It looks like everyone else, Kickstarter backers and contributors, should be receiving theirs by the end of the week.

The USPS if once again shipping to Canada so the few remaining pledged items will be going out soon. We are still waiting to hear from a couple of backers…hint hint.

We’ve been pondering a new set up for the indoor conventions that we attend. We currently use wire racks on the table to present the books. Unfortunately, this means that much of the beautiful covers remain hidden. We have been working on a potential fix which we will be rolling out this year. We will let you know when to look for it.

This Week’s Rambling: Diligence

I’m not going to lie, this is not what I planned to talk about today. In fact, I had already started a ramble that I was planning on finishing for today’s post. There is still a bit to puzzle out for that one, and it will hold for a little bit, so we are going to talk politics for a moment.

Don’t worry, this will be short.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am not a fan of the president elect. I’m not going to go into all of the reasons why right now because I promised to keep it short. I’ll make it easy for you. If there is a reason to dislike him, you can bet that it is on my list of reasons.

Also, if this is something that you disagree with, feel free to exit now. This is no longer something that I am willing to debate. Don’t comment, just go.

Everyone still here? All right then.

The Greenland thing. Look, we all know that this is completely ridiculous. You can not simply state that you are going to take over a chunk of territory. It doesn’t work that way. That would be like saying that you are going to change the name of a gulf or something…

Anywaaaaaay,

I posited three posible reasons for this recent bit of incoherent nonsense on social media and I will repeat them here.

  1. He actually thinks that he can pull the whole colonial thing and simply annex a land mass despite what its people want. Chalk this up to his Russian buddy doing the same thing. He has used the whole “it’s necessary for our security” argument.

  2. This is a distraction technique to get everyone to think he’s nuts while he (or those working with him) push appointees through and further their agendas — you know, Project 2025, the one he claimed he never read (and why didn’t he?).

  3. This is designed to make people get so fed up that they stop watching the news, allowing the appointment and the agendas thing to move forward with little or no oversight.

I know that this is hard, but we can’t turn away. No more than ever, we have to keep an eye on what is happening around us. We have to do what we can to limit the damage and we can’t do that if we bury our heads in the sand. Even though that is really, really tempting.
