I’ve mentioned the rain in the past few posts. This lead to one of the worst groaners in a long time. I walked into the TV room where The Mrs was sitting and said “There are going to be so many Pilgrims to deal with.” She looked at me like I was insane. I was forced to explain. “We have been getting a lot of April showers.” She looked at me for a moment, then her eyes rolled so hard that I swear I could hear them from across the room.

I won’t lie, I was pretty proud of that, considering how early it was.

There were a lot of windstorms this year. I believe I posted the pictures of the big tree that came down during one of them. Fortunately, we haven’t had any problems with the big trees <knock wood>. There have, however, been a ton of little branches and sticks and crap that have come down over the recent months. I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to clean up the lawn enough that I can actually mow the lawn.

Which it desperately needs.

I haven’t mentioned the mead making lately. Today I plan on bottling the two cysers I started last year. They’ve been sitting for a couple of months to allow them to clear. Hopefully they will be all set today. I’ve got an online meeting to attend, so I figure I can listen to that while I work.

Listening To: Too Old For This by Samantha Downing. An elderly woman, who just happens to be a retired serial killer, has to go back to her old life when people start getting too close.

Currently Reading: Godzilla Rivals: Book One I took some time away from the big book to read a quick graphic novel. It’s a fun series of shorts featuring everyone’s favorite kaiju facing off against his big opponents.

Current Obsession: Neon Genesis: Evangelion. I decided it was time to fill in a little of my geek deficiencies. I really hope that the makers of Pacific Rim paid some kind of royalties to the creator of this anime series.

PUPDATES

The puppies had their lyme boosters yesterday. We have so many deer and other critters around that it seems prudent to make sure they are protected. We have already have seen a couple of deer ticks. Fortunately, we found them on ourselves, not on the dogs.

Regardless of what the DNA results say, I think that they may be at least part beaver.

After the vet visit, they were pretty zonked out. They slept most of the afternoon. After spending some time outside, they had dinner, then went back into their crates. I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like they are finally starting to see their crates as safe places.

Right now, Quinn is snoring on the couch next to me. Finn is napping on the floor in the middle of the sunbeam.

As of the most recent visit, Quinn is around 28 pounds and Finn is about 31. We received their DNA tests. Their each 100% American Pit Bull. They predict that Quinn will top out around 49 pounds and Finn 62. There is a lot of other information that I have been sorting through, now that the results are in. They seem to be at a higher risk for developing allergies and there are some medical possibilities that I will share with their vets.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We have completed the formatting for Hollywood is Dead, the collection of the entire Hollywood series by Ron Ford. We will be ordering proof copies soon to make sure that everything looks correct, then we will be releasing it to the wild!

We are in a similar position for HaiPoo 2. Look for both of these in the next few months.

Our next show will be Halfway to Halloween on the 8th and 9th of May. We will be there Friday evening and all day Saturday.

Michael will be one of the panelists on this week’s Now Streaming where we discuss the Goldie Hawn/Chevy Chase movie Foul Play. Next Thursday he will be on Dead On Movies where he will review the film Hellbender.

This Week’s Rambling: How Do We Come Back

All right, this is one of those political ones, so if you are only here for the funny stuff, this is where you stop reading. I’ll see you again next week.

Still here?

All right then.

This has been the question that been on my mind lately. We have a government that is actively committing war crimes. They are doing their best to strip the rights away from anyone who is not a rich, old, white person who identifies as a man. They are doing their damned best to destroy the health system. Their most recent affront is to dismantle the Forestry Service. Temu Nero has surrounded himself with people who only agree with him so there is no one to reign is his idiotic impulses.

We have been fighting back—in the courts and in the streets. Our hopes are resting on the mid-term elections. Maybe we  can get enough people in place to stop the fucking madness.

But what happens after? How do we hold these people accountable for their actions? How do we restore our standing in the international community? How do we right a ship which has been deliberately sabotaged and has been taking on water for so long?

And how do we prevent this from happening again?

I do not have the answers, but we need to figure it out and soon.
