The card and bouquet I gave the Mrs on Saturday.

This is probably going to be a short one, as I have spent the last few days feeling like warmed over dog crap. I never got to the point where I was throwing up constantly, but I sure felt like it for a while. After a few days of hot and cold running fever I think I’ve finally come through on the other side.

Speaking of warmth, we are experiencing our first False Spring of 2026. Anyone who lives in Michigan knows that this weather is just bullshit, only there to get us to let down our guard. I’m sure that there is an ice storm in the near future. Still, it was nice go go out in something other than a parka for a little while.

The unnatural heat is enough that I was able to go out and safely add some water to the hot tub, which is why I am sitting here in a damp tee shirt. Good thing it didn’t happen last week when the water spots would have frozen to my skin.

I’m pleased to announce that I was well enough to enjoy the weekend. The Mrs took a few days off around her birthday, which is absolutely unheard of. We went out for a nice dinner Friday night. Saturday we had steaks grilled at home for V-Day.

There was one other little trip that we took on Saturday. Yes, the rumors are true. We went out and looked at a couple of puppies. We haven’t totally made up our minds yet, but there is the possibility that we will be introducing some new family members in the near future.

Listening To: The Last Book on the Left. Put out by the creators of the Last Podcast on the Left, this is a history of various well known serial killers sprinkled through with occasional quips and bits of humor.

Currently Reading: Post-Apocalyptic Nomadic Warriors: Duck and Cover Book 1 by Benjamin Wallace. I decided that I need a lot of humor in my entertainment so I started this series yesterday. The first book starts with the line “Even a mushroom cloud has a silver lining.” Come on, if that isn’t a hook I don’t know what is.

Current Obsession: Sleep. So much sleep.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

Due to the fact I spent the last 72 hours or so either knocked out or watching stupid crap on YouTube, there hasn’t been much movement on the publishing front. Barring any relapses, we will still be moving forward with our upcoming appearances. Check us out in Howell this Saturday!

We did get our big restock order of paperbacks (in eight different packages because why not?) so we should be all set for all of our upcoming events!

This Week’s Rambling: It’s Just A Phase

In case you were wondering if I was the only one commenting on the weather, I’ve included a few memes from Awesome Mitten which explains how things really are. They are pretty accurate, although I would probably change the name of some of the summer ones so they reflected the increased mosquito activity.

I love “Spring of Deception”

Not that you’ll ever see me on the golf course.

In the past I would have also said that one of our seasons is Construction, but that seems to have changed to a year round thing, at least as far as the freeways near me are concerned.

A common adage is that if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute and it will change. There are reasons that I, like most true Michigan residents, never take the snow scraper out of the car. The primary one is that you never know when you are going to get a sudden ice storm and need it. The other is that once those things leave the car they burrow into the corner of your garage and disappear. Then you have to look like a rube when you buy a new one. Seriously, I have so many ice scrapers and snow brushes somewhere.

Every year we go through a couple of these fake Springs. We get weather in the 50s and then get a big dump of snow. If we are lucky the warmth isn’t long enough to trick the flowers into trying to poke their heads out of the mulch. If we are really lucky, it doesn’t get warm enough to make the allergens fly.

This year is the first year that I remember getting any kind of air quality alert, but my phone has been pinging away for days. Apparently it is warm enough that all of the pollutants that were trapped in the snow are escaping to cause havoc among those with respiratory issues. It could be that I just never noticed them before, but this seems like a new and exciting thing for us to worry about.

I’m not going to lose too much sleep over it. According to my phone’s weather app, it’s supposed to rain for two days, then drop back down to highs in the 30s where they belong.
