We have had Finnegan and Quinn for a week (yes, we finally decided upon names) and it has been both exhilarating and exhausting. For the most part, the potty training portion is going very well. They have both already learned to go to the door wall and sit to wait for their leashes to be put on (we don’t have a fenced yard at the New House™️). Unfortunately we have had a couple of slip ups, as can be expected.

The weather has been absolutely bonkers this week. I actually set up a chair outside for a few days and sat out in the yard in shorts and a tee shirt. Today has not been the day for that. On the plus side, we own our own carpet cleaner.

For the bulk of the week, my schedule has revolved around the puppies’ sleeping schedule. Generally they wake up when The Mrs does, which makes a certain amount of sense since she has been sleeping on the floor with them every night.

No, I’m not making that up.

They get some food in the morning, run around a bit, then a brief trip outside and crash for a few hours while I start the laundry or do the dishes or something house related. There is an extended period of play in the middle of the morning, then another nap, lather, rinse, repeat. We are currently in the post play period afternoon nap which just might last until The Mrs gets home from work.

Currently, “play” translates as “Royal Rumble.” I’m OK with the wrestling but I’m actively working to stop the nipping at each other. It is kind of funny to watch Quinn launch herself off the ottoman like Rey Mysterio flying off the top rope.

Listening To: A surprising amount of classical music. The Mrs discovered that this seems to calm them both down, so I have had it on the background during the day instead of an audiobook.

Currently Reading: Godzilla: The First 70 Years: The Official Illustrated History of the Japanese Productions by Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski. It’s an absolutely gorgeous coffee table sized book detailing information about each of the Godzilla movies. Plenty of pictures, lots of behind the scenes stuff, and the cover has a kaiju inspired texture.

Current Obsession: We started watching Young Sherlock. It’s OK, some episodes are better than others. I’ve also been listening to a lot of YouTubers reading Reddit stories. Anything to drown out the noise of the news.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

Woefully little has gotten done during the first week of life with Quinn and Finn. We have been making plans for the upcoming month’s worth of Midnight Creature Feature Shows. There’s some really good stuff lined up.

Speaking of, this Saturday (the 14th) is the double feature of The Valley of the Dolls and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. The first show starts at 6, but get there early to chat with us in the lobby.

We are pleased to announce that we will be returning to the Spooktastic Haunted Book Fair. This year it will be held on 17 October, once again at the Creative Cafe. More information as we get closer to the event.

If you have visited the Dragon’s In The Wild page lately you might have noticed that there are a number of empty months. Usually we have a pretty full dance card by this point in the year. However, there are a number of shows that we normally attend that we have to pass on in 2026 due to familial obligations. This being said, if there is a show in your neck of the wood that you think we might like to attend, please send us the information.

This Week’s Rambling: Sorry, This Is Going To Be A Short One

Originally this was going to be a post about Women in Horror Month, but my mind is absolute mush right now and I’m running super late on this post. Look for that one next week.

Instead I’m going to just say that I realize how fortunate I am to be able to stay home with the new dogs. I am very fortunate to be able to work from home so I can try to make their transition to their new home as smooth as possible.

They also give me a reason to not leave the house during the week. I mean, I try to limit my running around to one or two days in order to save time and gas, but it doesn’t hurt having yet another excuse to not put on real pants and socialize with people.

I also realize—in fact, I just realized it—that I am going to have to start taking small trips out of the house in order to make sure Quinn and Finn don’t end up developing separation anxiety. I’ve already been leaving them in one room while I go and take care of other things, but I will have to start simulating actually leaving the house now.

Dang it.
