I am sitting on the couch with two puppies. One is curled up by a pillow. The other has her head buried under my arm. I expect that my productivity in terms of housework my decrease drastically because of this.

I’m not really all that upset by this development.

Yes, last night we went and picked up the currently named Tito and Bacardi. I fully expected to have a long night of crying as they got used to their new home. This was not at all the case. The Mrs set up a kind of den in the bedroom using a large baby gate, dog bed, and a crate. They settled right in and fell asleep.

Of course, the fact that she slept on the floor with them might have helped a bit.

This has been my morning so far:

-The dogs got up with The Mrs.

-Breakfast (the puppies eating, I just had a protein bar), then a trip outside. The two are currently puppy pad trained, but we will be working to train them to go outside as much as possible.

-Nap (again, them, not me).

-Play time outside. Apparently crunchy frozen leaves are the coolest thing ever.

-Play time inside. This mostly consisted of running from one end of the house to the other and back again.

-More outside time. More leaves. The destruction of a stick.

-Return inside followed by immediate crash.

I had forgotten how puppies go from 100 mph to 0 in the blink of an eye. I suspect I will spend the next few days figuring out their schedule so I can work around it. In the meantime, I have two puppies snoring, running in their sleep, and occasionally farting to keep me company.

Listening To: I listened to Chuck Palahniuk’s Damned on the way home from Pittsburgh on Monday. It’s an absolutely hysterical telling of a 13 year old’s time in Hell with each chapter beginning “Are you there Satan? It’s me, Madison” a la Judy Blume. I enjoyed it so much that I immediately downloaded the sequel.

Currently Reading: A novel submission for DRP. Look for announcements later in the year.

Current Obsession: Puppies, duh.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We had a great time at Horror Realm over the weekend. Special thanks go out to Peggy Christie for table duties and Don England for being such a great neighbor.

That puts an end to the long rambling for a little bit. Our next few shows will all be local (to us). Make sure that you have the 14th marked on your calendar for the double feature at the Historic Howell Theater. Remember that we are starting at 6pm instead of 9 this time around.

I spent some down time this weekend doing the preliminary formatting on our first release of the year. We’re not going to announce just yet, but here is a hint—it’s a sequel to something already in our catalog.

We also sent out some contracts for other upcoming releases. Keep an eye on this spot for all the details.

This Week’s Rambling: The Socio-Economic Ramifications of…JK, It’s More Puppy Stuff

I won’t lie to you. I have been in knots about the whole process of adopting the new puppies for weeks. I’ve got a couple thousand words written about this in a notebook, because that’s how I figure things out now. I won’t call it journaling. It’s more like stream of consciousness therapy via pen and ink.

I feel very guilty about how quickly we moved forward with the adoption. I still miss Tesla every day. I had a bit of a breakdown while I was in Pittsburgh over the weekend. Fortunately it was after the show was done for the night and I was already in my hotel room.

I’ve been consoling myself with the knowledge that we have adopted two dogs from a rescue organization (the Last Day Dog Rescue Organization, the one which DRP supports).

That and the fact that they are so damn cute.

We still haven’t decided on names yet, we need to spend some more time with them to see what fits.

Sorry this is so short this week. I’ve been working around puppy time. Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be more in the future.
