Unfortunately, the big accomplishment of last week was getting over a cold or the flu or some such illness. It knocked me down for a couple of days. No real distress except in the GI area. The Mrs is currently deep in the sleep of Lord NyQuill (it’s almost noon) so I either passed it on to her and she has different symptoms or she has something else. Either way, Tesla keeps going in to check on her.

In case anyone was wondering, the follow up to last week’s post about the wealth of potential things to do on Saturday was that I stayed home hepped up of goofballs (Lady DayQuill for me). I watched Scream (the recent one which was released without a number for some reason), then the UofM game. It got dark around 7:30 and Tesla decided we might as well go to bed, so we did.

One interesting thing that I did do, and one which actually involved leaving the house, was to visit the local airport. We have a small airport not far from the house. On Sunday we checked out some competition flying. The Mrs fully admits that this is all part of her fiendish plan to desensitize me to small aircraft.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We recently purchased a number of 7 gallon HDX containers. We currently have a number of 27 gallon HDX containers that we use to transport our Con stuff. If you have ever been to a Con before it opens you will have seen these boxes at a bunch of different vendors. They look like big tupperware containers, black bottoms with yellow lids. They are great for carrying things around. They are sturdy and stackable, perfect for carrying stuff around. The only problem that we’ve been having, and by we I mean I, is that 27 gallons worth of books makes one heavy box. We have two full of books and a slightly smaller (and much lighter) one with the tablecloths, stands, and other things. We are going to try separating the titles by author, turning one big box to a bunch of smaller ones. Hopefully this will be lighter and will pack better in the car.

We are preparing for our next big, out of town convention — AuthorCon IV in St. Louis. The convention is a fundraiser for Scares that Care. Each year they raise funds for a breast care patient, a burn victim, and a sick child. We have done previous AuthorCons in Williamsburg, VA. This the first time it will be in St. Louis and we are looking forward to checking out the new show.

In addition to Dragon’s Roost Press being in the vendor’s area (Concourse Ballroom), I will be on the So You Want To Publish An Anthology panel (Friday, 4 October 5:45 - 6:45 Gatwick Room) and will be performing a reading (Friday, 4 October 6:45 - 7:45 Heathrow Room).

We are halfway through the Kickstarter Campaign and we are less than $300 away from our goal. Keep sharing those links!

I’m also still in the running to be this year’s Face of Horror. I appreciate everyone who is voting for me. Remember, you can vote every day!

This Week’s Rambling: I Have the Coolest Wife

I am really not a social person, I am much more of an introvert. Doing appearances and selling things at conventions is actually very difficult for me. In order to combat the desire to run away or simply hide out in a hotel room (for those that I have hotel rooms for), I literally put on a persona — namely a person that could stand around and talk to people all day. A big part of this for me is to dress the part.

If you have seen me at a con, you know I usually have a very specific look. Boots, kilt, bowling shirt, and a hat of one kind or another. There are some people who don’t recognize me until they see the kilt. While I have a slew of bowling shirts, I have now have three new favorites. Last November I was hitting all the post-Halloween sales when I came across some really cool fabric at JoAnn’s. I bought it, gave it to The Mrs and told her that her Christmas present to me was going to be a pair of new shirts.

To be honest, I’m still waiting on one of those, but I have also given her a bunch of extra fabric and gotten a total of three shirts. This is especially awesome, because that means that I can cover a whole weekend of con-ware.

I feel like I should also note that The Mrs is a quilter and a bunch of her own recent fabric purchases have been spooky stuff which gets magically transformed into amazing quilts.

Look for photos of the new shirts when I post from AuthorCon!
