I’ve been having a hard time trying to figure out exactly when it is. In my mind it is closing in on Halloween, so it has to be October. But it is still plenty warm outside, warm enough that I’m still sleeping with a fan on, so maybe it is still August. I guess I will just have to settle for it being September.

I’m trying to come to grips with the fact that I have this Saturday free. Not only am I not doing any shows, The Mrs has plans which will keep her out of the house all day. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to do something fun, right? This is the part where one would expect me to complain that there is nothing interesting happening, but the truth is exactly the opposite — there’s too much going on. My options include:

The Michigan Renaissance Festival (which I haven’t been to in a couple of years). This weekend’s theme will be Harvest Huzzah.

The World Oddities Expo where Peggy Christie will be vending.

The Haunted Harvest at Eloise Asylum where Ken MacGregor will be vending.

Hearsefest 2024 where they will be going for the world record for “Longest Parade of Hearses.”

The Ferndale DIY Street Fair which we usually attend, but then again we are no longer within walking distance.

This is in addition to the films that are playing and the numerous haunted attractions that have opened recently.

I’m not going to lie, it’s even odds that I’ll end up just staying at home.

Listening To: Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil by Ananda Lima. I’ve had some issues with my headphones, so I haven’t been listening while working like I usually do, but when I do have the chance — wow. “Antropógaga” may be the creepiest short story I’ve read this year.

Currently Reading: Instruction manuals. It’s really annoying and kind of depressing.

Current Obsession: Dark Winds. I was really happy to stumble upon this on Netflix. I’m a big fan of Tony Hillerman’s work, especially the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee mysteries. We’ve just about finished the first season and we are looking forward to starting the next one.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We had great weather for Frankfest last weekend. As always, we had a wonderful time. Once again, thank you to everyone who came out, the vendors, entertainers, and especially those show runners.

We are halfway to our goal after only one week of the Kickstarter. Thank you to everyone who has backed and/or shared the links. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you still have three weeks to do so.

I’m currently third in my Face of Horror bracket. Voting for this round ends 19 September at 9pm PDT.

We’ve been doing a lot of behind the scenes work to make our whole catalog more available. It’s kind of monotonous work, but it will pay off.

This Week’s Rambling: Spooky Doings for Metro Detroit

On my old website, I would post a list of awesome horror doings for the month of October. I haven’t really done this for a few years, but I think it is time to resurrect this. This will primarily be a Michigan based list, but if feel free to add something spooky from your own locale in the comments.

What follows are some events and special movie showings in some of my favorite movie theaters. The include The Redford Theatre of Detroit, the Michigan Theater of Ann Arbor, and the Historic Howell Theater of Howell. These beautifully restored movie houses were all built in the 1920s and often feature special themed showings. I have included the organ concert at the Redford, something amazing to behold. I’ve picked showings from three of the Michigan Theater’s Film Series: Late Night Classics, Like It’s 1999, and Hitchcocktober but there are plenty of other interesting showings you may be interested in.

Obviously, I won’t be attending all of these (I haven’t learned bi-location yet).
