I’m fighting something, so this is going to be a short one this week. I’ve been tired and achey for a few days, but I’m not positive for the ‘Rona, so that’s something.

The Mrs has been doing her best impersonation of the ant that prepared for winter. She’s been picking up carloads (and by “car” I mean the entire interior of her new SUV) of free wood which she has then been chainsawing into stove sized pieces. I suspect we won’t be turning on the furnace at all.

However, the big home improvement project of the week was the addition of one of those magnetic screen thingies outside the back door. The thought process is that now Tesla won’t have to wait for one of us to let her back in. I was pretty skeptical about her using it, since she’s pretty aware of the permanence of the screen door on the deck and the netting around the canopy (unlike Titus, who, when he first encountered a sliding screen door at my folks cabin…well let’s just say the result required a quick trip to the local hardware store.). However, she has taken to it like a champ. She won’t go out without one of us saying it is ok, but show no hesitation coming back in.

The only downside is that the little magnets have a tendency to stick to our metal door.

Listening To: Various YouTubers talk about horror movies and esoterica. I haven’t been able to decide on a new audiobook, so short videos have been the background of my life.

Currently Reading: I recently finished Army of Darkness vs Hack/Slash and while I usually enjoy both series, I thought the crossover fell short. Some of the nods and guest appearances were cute, but Ash’s obsession with sex made the whole thing feel off.

Current Obsession: Sleep. I’m sooooo tired.

Dragon’s Roost Press News

We had a great time at Hot Ghoul Summer last Friday. It was really wonderful to spend some time with Amy Probst of Typewriter Arts. We’ve known each other for decades. There is just something peaceful about the sound of a typewriter clacking away…

Our next show will be this Saturday, the Screamfest Bizarre Expo in Leslie, MI. There is a chance of rain, so dress appropriately.

While we are diligently working on the edits for the Arkham Institutions anthology (with the exception of today when I couldn’t keep my eyes open), we are looking ahead to our next project. Look for announcements here before anywhere else!

This Week’s Rambling: Random Stuff

To convert from degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8 and add 32. I know this because when I was about 7 or 8 we were camping in the Upper Peninsula and there was a family with a sick child. The parents were trying to figure out if the child was running a fever, but they only had a metric thermometer. They were so scared that as soon as we got home I looked up the conversion formula (which required a visit to the library, remember, this was way before the internet) and memorized it. I’ve had it in my head ever since.

On a related note, when I was in school, they promised us that we would be converting to the metric system just like the rest of the world. I am still really pissed off that we didn’t.

Speaking of fear and childhood, when I was in school we were shown one of those film reels (remember those?) featuring Donald Duck being trapped in a house that was on fire. At first he runs around trying to grab everything and dying in the fire. Eventually they showed him how to safely exit a burning building. That thing fucked me and my sister up. My mom still hates Donald Duck because of that.

I would like to continue down this weird memory lane, but the bacon is done. Tonight’s dinner will be bacon (made in the air fryer), lettuce, and tomato sandwiches on toasted croissants because we fancy like that. The air fryer has been a great addition to our kitchen, although I suspect that Tesla misses the bacon grease added to her food. I highly recommend toasting CostCo croissants in one.

The best part will be the fact that the T in the BLTs will be from our garden. There is just something about stuff from your garden that just tastes better. Also, while The Mrs will probably have two (or more likely one and a half BLTs), I’ll have one and then one PBB — peanut butter and bacon. Seriously, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
